Matt Mulholland is a founding partner of Gill & Mulholland LLP.

Prior to launching Gill & Mulholland LLP in 2017, Matt worked in boutique litigation firms for over ten years gaining a broad range of experience in litigating, arbitrating, and mediating disputes on behalf of insurance companies, small business owners and individuals. He has argued cases in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. He has also appeared in the Court of Appeal in Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

His time in court has not only provided him with invaluable advocacy experience but has also provided him with the insight that going to court is only one weapon in a lawyer’s arsenal that should only be relied upon when all other options have been exhausted. He therefore actively promotes the use of team collaboration, continuing education and client involvement to encourage creative and lasting solutions to difficult problems.

Matt made the decision to establish Gill & Mulholland LLP with Neil Gill as it was apparent to him that people were waiting until a dispute arose before hiring legal counsel.

Because of this, by the time he was retained, clients were already embroiled in litigation and often in disputes that could have been avoided or, at the very least, litigation costs could have been minimized had lawyers been retained sooner. It was his desire to create a law firm that would be both approachable and affordable and that would become an instrument for his clients to use at the time the questions start to arise. It is his belief that this not only benefits the clients as they have a lawyer that they can call when they have even the smallest of questions, but also means that when disputes do arise, they have legal representation that they know and trust and that knows the ins and outs of their business.

Matt has a broad litigation practice. He handles all forms of disputes that small and medium size enterprises face in their day-to-day business, including disputes between shareholders, insurance issues, contractual disputes, and account collections. He also assists homeowners in real estate disputes and represents both sides in construction related matters.  Matt is also regularly retained by professionals in disciplinary proceedings and licensing matters.
